This month in drops (so far)
December has been one hell of a month for drops, and it’s mostly recurring ones between brands who’ve partnered together in the past.
Here’s a roundup of some dope drops that have occurred. Some shit you can have, and some shit you can’t.
John Mayer x HODINKEE x G-Shock
Now, there’s an encore. I’ve loved John’s partnership with HODINKEE over the years and appreciate him showing love to Casio and the classic G-Shock. This timepiece bangs and feels like the perfect blend of functionality and flex.
Check it out ($180).
Knickerbocker for the NY Times
Knickerbocker brings back their classic New York Times collection. Not gonna lie those holiday sweaters are fresh. Check it out.
Adidas x Arsenal go retro (again)
Arsenal’s kit sponsor, Adidas, is back with another retro-inspired collection. These two have been dropping vintage kits for a while now, and honestly, as an Arsenal supporter, I’m convinced that they release these outrageously dope kits to distract us from the grim reality that we’re still a shit club every season.
And I’m okay with that. I just wanna feel something.
Tyler, the Creator is our man of the year
And what a year it’s been. Felicia the GOAT just pulled off another wonderful stunt. His Malibu pop-up shop for Golf le Fleur (his own brand) is the perfect example of why we need to take him seriously as a designer. He’s out here selling mohair cardigans for $500, making his own nail polish, and creating fragrances called the “French Waltz.” What a G!
The best part is, he doesn’t give a f*ck if you like it or not. He just does what he wants. You gotta respect how dialed-in creatively he is, and how he’s made his own path.
18 East deserves credit too
Man, it’s hard to ignore how good designer Antonio Ciongoli’s stuff is getting. Since he left Eidos Napoli to work on his own brand 18East, it’s been fun to watch his inspiration come to life. This holiday drop just slaps and I’m very sad I missed out on the LA hat and rugby shirt. Put some respect on Antonio’s name!
Salehe Bembury made the only Crocs I’d ever wear
Let’s be clear about one thing. I hate Crocs. A lot. But there’s some magic spell Salehe put on me with this one. I can’t shake it, I just kinda love them.
Too bad they sold out. Want a pair now? That’ll be $650, plz.
Thanks, resellers. I hate it here.
The catch-all puffer vest
Another vintage-inspired gem from Buck. They collab’d with Allied Down on this down-feathered piece that's great for a hike, camping upstate, or rocking as a soft-shell on the streets. Love the neutral tones here too.
Check ‘em out ($275).
Bodega x Carhartt WIP
Carhartt WIP dropped a capsule collection with Bodega. It’s an homage to their DTLA store which is a converted fruit market and right next to DTLA’s produce district. Thought this was a fun drop to do highlighting locals too. Well done.
ALD’s double whammy
Nothing new here, but ALD is back with their premier, annual collabs for Drake’s and Clarks Originals. I’ve enjoyed their previous collections and this one was no exception!
I just have one small problem: it feels like ALD is just making up prices at this point, and lots of other folks tend to agree. How is this fleece $1,000?
C’est la vie.
