Fall shopping advice from the homies (part 2)
We asked our friends what they're wearing right now, and they delivered.
This year, we launched a new series called Shopping Advice from the Homies, and since the season’s long, we had to run it back for part deux.

What’s the one item you’re most excited to wear this fall?
I’ve been hunting for this very specific vintage L.L. Bean shearling fringe jacket for a while—with no luck. Last month, I found one hanging off the side mirror of a truck at the Rose Bowl, in perfect condition. I bought it on the spot. It’s definitely coming with me somewhere cold this fall.
How would you describe your go-to cold-weather look?
A chunky turtleneck, easy trousers, a long coat, and my beaten-up Converse.
What does your footwear rotation look like once the season changes?
Living in LA, my wardrobe is pretty seasonless. I’m always wearing my G.H. Bass Weejuns, Belgian Shoes, and high-top Converse.
Come fall, I add in my Lucchese cowboy boots. I also picked up some vintage riding boots recently that I’m excited to add to the mix.
Any must-have jackets you recommend for layering in the fall?
I always love a classic navy peacoat or a long double-breasted camel coat when I’m on the East Coast.
In LA, I love wearing my navy wool gabardine trench coat—it feels like the chicest thing you can own: easy, versatile, and works with everything. Search for vintage Calvin Klein on eBay.
Are there any new pieces or trends catching your eye this season?
I’m not big on trends, but I am sensing a cool shift in proportions I’m into—I’m obsessed with the mix of shrunken jackets and oversized pants at the moment.
Do you follow any personal style do’s or don’ts for fall dressing?
I always want to feel like myself. I put effort into getting dressed, but I never want it to feel forced. Comfort is non-negotiable. The greatest luxury is looking good while feeling comfortable.

What’s the one item you’re most excited to wear this fall?
Anything from my extensive sweatshirt collection will do. This particular one from Brycelands has the perfect crop and semi-exaggerated features of a 1940s baseball sweatshirt. It’s incredible.
How would you describe your go-to cold-weather look?
Sweatshirt, beanie, denim, and boots—easy.
What does your footwear rotation look like once the season changes?
More brown shoes! There’s a chill in the air, and the warmth can be found in your wardrobe. I’m more likely to reach for my brown suede or leather shoes and pair them with a cozy sock.
Do you have any must-have jackets you recommend for layering in the fall?
I’m really enjoying my Buck Mason Parachute Poplin Jungle Jacket. The layering capabilities for this feel infinite, and the sizing is perfect. It’s mostly sold out in larger sizes, so if you can get your hands on one, I think it’s a great investment.
I’ve also splurged on a few Orslow denim jackets this year, and they’re ideal for those milder fall days that only call for an outer layer over a T-shirt.
Are there any new pieces or trends catching your eye this season?
I’ve seen the shift in perception around hiking boots and where they’re headed within the fashion sphere. I like how they’ve transitioned into a more casual aesthetic.
I’ve always really enjoyed the look of a lugged sole and durable materials like nubuck leather paired with hairy suede. I’ve got my eyes on a few pairs from Morjas, Paraboot, and Aimé Leon Dore.
Do you follow any personal style do’s or don’ts for fall dressing?
Check the temperature throughout the day. Sometimes a cool morning will stay just that. Make sure you’re prepared to transition to a lighter layer so you’re not sweating through a cashmere sweater. Preparation is key to good style!

What’s the one item you’re most excited to wear this fall?
Probably my Cease Collar Zip Sweatshirt I bought over the summer. I didn’t get much wear out of it since summers in New York can get brutally hot—but I did bring it on a work trip to San Francisco and wore it a bunch.
The Collar Zip Sweatshirt is made from a midweight 15 oz cotton fleece—perfect for a cool day or as a layering piece on colder ones.
How would you describe your go-to cold-weather look?
I’d describe it as comfortable and layered: Levi’s jeans, a long-sleeve shirt, a hoodie, a puffer jacket, a beanie, and a pair of boots.
What does your footwear rotation look like once the season changes?
I usually switch over to boots. I have a few pairs in my closet, but I tend to rotate between my Vasque Sundowners, Timberland Field Boots, and a pair of BEAMS x Timberland Moc Toes.
Any must-have jackets you recommend for layering in the fall?
For layering, you can’t go wrong with Patagonia’s Down Sweater Jacket or Nano Puff Jacket. Both are great layering pieces and work well on their own.
Are there any new pieces or trends catching your eye this season?
No new trends are catching my eye this season, but as far as new pieces go, there’s a jacket that recently caught my attention on Neighbour’s site. It’s a beautiful brown corduroy piece from a Japanese brand called Cottle.
Do you follow any personal style do’s or don’ts for fall dressing?
Hmm… I guess when fall comes around, it’s the start of hoodie season in my book, so I find myself rotating through a few of my favorite hoodies and layering more.
Style don’ts: don’t overthink your outfits—feel comfortable, be yourself, and have fun.
