I have a military vintage pair and this new pair (thanks, Andrew!), and the fabric is so soft it’s like you’ve worn it for years. I also don’t mind that it drapes a little either—but you could easily taper it at the ankle if you want.

These Merino wool socks from Shiro Elements. They’re not technically available yet (to my knowledge), but all of their socks are incredible, so you really can’t go wrong.

How did the Shiro socks fit? I saw they offer Sizes 12-15 in a few of their styles, but not all. I'm usually a 12-13 but I'm wondering if the 9-11 sizing could still work.
