The fall guide to knitwear

From crewnecks and V-necks to rollnecks and cardigans.

Knitwear is my favorite thing to wear in the fall.

Maybe it’s because I’m a swagged-out geriatric 80-year-old at heart, but there’s nothing cozier than a heavy shawl-collar cardigan or a soft-ass, dollar-thin cashmere sweater thrown over a T-shirt.

Sweaters come in all shapes and sizes (and zippers), but we’re highlighting what we think are the four most important: crewnecks, V-necks, rollnecks, and cardigans.

From Donegal-flecked patterns and Italian-made deep V-necks to maritime-inspired rollnecks and a mohair camo cardigan, there’s plenty here to bookmark, or flat-out double-tap for Apple Pay.

Here are 20 of the best sweaters right now, designed to be layered under lightweight jackets or even those GORE-TEX heavy-duty puffers, too.

If you’ve been following along, we’ve already put together guides on:

  • Fall Jackets

  • Fall Trousers

  • Transitional Jackets

  • Fall Footwear

  • Socks

If you’re new to the guides, we drop one a week and the categories are always different. If you want access to these shopping guides for yourself or a loved one, you can subscribe here.

A few notes about these guides ❤️

  1. As always, if you’re looking for trendy shit on the cheap, this isn’t the best place to look. You need the right stuff, not more stuff.

  2. A lot of these recommendations tend to be medium to higher price point (though not always). If you’re looking for quality, affordable options, I always recommend thrifting what you can (like eBay, vinted, etc), or looking at options like Uniqlo.

    1. If you like these guides, share them with a homie, partner, family member, lover, or anyone who would appreciate it!
