This week, we kick off a new series called What’s Good, where we chat with folks in the Sprezza universe across clothing, interiors, design, food, etc (whose taste we love, of course) about what inspires them.
The goal of these mini-Q&As is to explore their personal preferences, how they evolve, the pieces and objects that shape their style, and so on.
Up first, we felt it was only fitting to tap the homie and fellow southerner, Chris Black, whom we originally profiled back in 2022.

Here’s the full editorial if you want his story.
But in this mini interview, we cover his tastes and preferences. Hope you enjoy, and let us know if there’s someone else you think we should feature next!
What books are currently living on your coffee table?
Book Svenskt Tenn Interiors
Snow Business by Philippa Snow
Sweetheart Roller Skating Rink by Bill Yates
Empire Of The Elite by Michael M. Grynbaum
Grand Rapids by Natasha Stagg
If you could say one thing to your younger self right now, what would it be?
There is nothing wrong with being a little preppy.
What’s the last thing you bought for under $50?
The J. Crew Broken-In t-shirt in black. I wear these in white, navy, and black; it’s the best fit for a simple plain t-shirt.
What’s a style rule or philosophy you always stick to—and why?
I wear as few logos as possible. I want everything to feel timeless and simple, and so should you.
What’s one thing you couldn’t live without?
Contax T3. I love taking pictures, and the T3 is the best pocket camera ever made. The price has gone through the roof, which I learned the hard way when I left one in a cab in London last year.
Which album do you think everyone should hear at least once?
“Failer” by Kathleen Edwards comes to mind today, but there are a million.
Do you have an item that captures your personal style?
JM Weston Black Calf Penny Loafers. I’ve worn them almost every day for a decade, and birth year pennies are in for good luck.
They have been resoled and shined countless times.

What’s the most sentimental object you own?
My “Bigmouth Strikes Again” The Smiths t-shirt I bought in 10th grade; it’s homegrown vintage.
