What's inside my brain (late night edition)
And some other stuff you should know about right now.
Calfskin loafers FTW
Hosting a BBQ this Labor Day? Meeting the parents? Give these multi-colored calfskin loafers a good shout. It’s a standout design in a classic style, a lovely ending (hopefully) to the hot, sweaty summer we’ve endured. Check ‘em out
The Drake’s editorial strategy
I’m convinced it’s simply this:
Visit a cool place
With cool friends
Dressed so good it hurts
Take photos of each other
At the most unassumingly cool establishment
Post about it
Give us the worst FOMO
It’s a great strategy, and one that works on me!
But I think what resonates a lot with customers and fans of the brand is the way that Drake’s positions the aspirational nature of their brand in a way that feels attainable, especially with editorial content. And I’m here for it.
An appreciation for brown
I love the color brown. Always have. It might be my favorite color to style because it goes with just about anything. Like olive. Khaki. Navy. Black. Grey.
You know, the only colors that matter.
But notice how it renders confidence without the noise. Smooth but not boring. Guess that’s why the elites call it stealth wealth, because there’s a richness to it. Anyway, I always love seeing how brands incorporate brown into their shoots and lookbooks.
So here’s to brown.
We finally get good-looking aprons
Teamwork is the latest brand to launch uniform-inspired workwear for chefs, cooks, and hospitality staff.
And I can’t tell you how excited I am for this. As someone who cooks most of the food at my house, having a go-to apron is crucial. My current apron is on its last leg, and the replacement options aren’t great.
No disrespect to the OGs Hedley & Bennett, but it’s more of an industry product, and the remaining options outside that are either
Cheap throwaway
Art-of-manliness-esque waxed canvas or leather (yikes!) ones
Not anymore. Brooks Reitz and his partner, Erin, are on to something.
So let ‘em cook!
And give Teamwork a follow in the meantime.
Forget the Vomero 5s; it’s P-6000 szn!
Look, I’m the least likely sneakerhead, and much less likely to influence people to purchase sneakers that I think are cool.
And that’s exactly why I’m going to tell you that if you’re looking for a new pair of borderline ugly, functional, quietly cool kicks, I’d suggest these bad boys.
Given the current state of running shoes and how uncool silhouettes (at large) are the holy grail of SKUs right now, it’s not a bad purchase.
And while the Vomero 5s get all the praise, these are a similar enough, cheaper option to roll with. I just got a pair and will be wearing them all. day. long. Here you go.
Gardening as an aesthetic
I’m seeing more brands lean into good-looking, functional pieces cue'd for the greenhouse, garden, or somewhere there are plants, and it's fun! I’ll write more about this sometime.
Loved this execution from 18east and Earth Studies; they nailed it, as they always do when they drop a collection together.
