The title of this piece is immediately undercut by the phrase “This piece is written in partnership with Stone Island.”

That’s totally fair to call out. For context, I was commissioned to write this, which is why it’s disclosed. That said, the framing, the header/title, and POV are mine; nothing was dictated by the brand.

Ultimately, I try not to take on projects where I’d have to soften or reshape how I actually feel, and this one genuinely reflects my thoughts on the brand. Appreciate you raising this!

Fair enough, appreciate the reply. I don’t doubt your intentions. My comment was glib, but I couldn’t help but notice the shot/chaser of the headline and sponsor tag. I know that’s all part of the game, so don’t take my comment the wrong way.

For what it’s worth, as someone who was in the Tumblr trenches blogging with all the old heads during the OG #menswear days, I appreciate what you guys do for the next generation coming up. And while Stone Island isn’t my cup of tea, I really respect the brand.

I understand the brand positioning may differ in certain regions, such as Europe and North America. However, it is difficult to disassociate the brand from football "ultra" culture and everything that wearing one of their pieces can imply.
