We’re back with another round of the Basics Program!
This new content series is meant to help you make better shopping decisions.
We take products from brands who make great basics—like t-shirts, hoodies, socks, briefs, etc—and review them for you.
These are not paid posts. But they are for paid subscribers only.
In our first issue of this, we reviewed Buck Mason’s made-in-USA toughknit tee, and second we reviewed American Trench.

A primer on American Giant
In 2011, Bayard Winthrop laid the foundation for American Giant, a San Francisco-based apparel company with a singular vision—to craft the ultimate hoodie. Over thirteen years, the company has expanded its product range, yet its essence remains rooted in daily essentials like exceptional hoodies, T-shirts, and sweats.
Creating an outstanding hoodie, according to Winthrop, involves eschewing shortcuts. Around 2013, Winthrop played a pivotal role in rescuing Eagle Sportswear, an apparel manufacturer in rural Middlesex, North Carolina, from imminent closure.
